Beach Ball Math

Looking for something EASY to entertain your students these days? I’ve got something so EASY and FUN that the kids LOVE! I got this idea from my mom so I’m giving all of the credit to her!

All you will need is TWO things: a permanent marker & a beach ball! Using the permeant marker, write numbers all over the ball.

Here’s How to Play:

  1. Have your students form a large circle around the classroom while you or another student stands in the middle.
  2. GENTLY toss the ball to a student.
  3. When they catch it they have to add the two numbers their thumbs are touching (or closest too.)
  4. Then they GENTLY toss the ball back to the person in the middle of the circle and they throw it to another student!

I tend to usually make them say the whole math fact so that other students are learning, as well. Here they added 6 + 6 = 12

If you teach older grades this can be used for multiplication facts as well.

We normally play this on Fridays or any time we have a few minutes and I need a quick filler.

I also use this same idea to reinforce vocabulary words. You can click here to read all about it.
