Five For Friday {March 22, 2013}

It’s FRIDAY!!! This has been the longest week for some reason. Why is coming back from Spring Break so hard?!?

I’m linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching for her fabulous Five For Friday Linky where I’ll share 5 random things from my week!

 Number 1:
On Monday I participated in the Let’s Get Acquainted Linky! I had to tell three things about myself….2 of them true, 1 false and people commented on which they thought was the lie. Here’s what I posted:

I learned to drive when I was 9 years old.
~TRUE! I grew up in small town USA ya’ll! I learned to drive when I was 9, a standard when I was 10 and was driving on Interstate 20 by the time I was 12. Our ranch is right off of 20 so that’s why.

2. I am terribly
afraid of clowns.~ TRUE! I don’t have a reason why, I just always have ever since I was a little girl. My mom said as a baby I would scream at the sight of one.

3. I have traveled
to all 50 states. ~FALSE!! For those of you that guessed right, congrats! I’ve been to 27 states. I’ll make it to all 50 on day!

Number 2:
We still use basal readers at my school. For the most part it isn’t bad but our series is pretty old. This week our story was about the “new” state quarters, explaining to the kids that in 1999 the quarters will begin to change to represent each of the 50 states. I know….old right! I found this great website for the kids to research the state quarters. Click here to check it out. It has kid friendly information about each quarter, games, videos and more. I checked out the schools class set of iPads for most of the week and the kids did their first “on their own” research project. I gave them a few minutes to browse through the quarters. Let me say, they got so into it!!! They each picked a different quarter (no kid picked the same one) to research and write about. They had to state the important information about the quarter then summarize what they learned. We’re not completely finished but here’s a look at a first draft and a almost final product.

Number 3:
Here’s a picture of my latest wedding project! This is going to be on our cake table. I LOVE how it turned out!

I also figured out how our centerpieces where going to look. My mom found a TON of mason jars at a garage sale so this weekend we are dying them all turquoise!

I’ll become a MRS, 3 months from today!

Number 4:
BASEBALL season is right around the corner! Here are some pinterest inspired looks I saw this week that I’m just dying to recreate! Go Rangers!

 LOVE THIS

Only with the Rangers

Number 5:

I’m going to ask for a favor. Some of you may have seen my post on the TPT forums. I teach in a very small town. I live in a great community full of wonderful people who are willing to bend over backwards for each other. My coworker and her family are in great need.

My coworker has two special needs children. , Quinton was born with Alobar Holoprosencephaly and hydrocephalus on March 24, 2003. The doctors told Katy and Lance he wouldn’t live to see his first birthday. He proved them wrong and is about to celebrate his 10th birthday! He’s unable to walk, hold his head up or function on his own. Quinton’s beautiful sister Abigail was born three years later with no health problems but it was clear a few years later something just wasn’t right. They learned that Abby is in the Autism spectrum and doesn’t communicate with words. She does communicate through some sign language and other creative ways! I have the opportunity to work with these children and they are truly a special gift from God.

Our sweet Quinton has been nominated by Celebrate National Mobility Awareness Month for a chance to win a wheel chair accessible van. I can not think of a more deserving family.

If you’d like to help this family in need, please click the link below to read their story and to vote.

“We live in a small Texas town that is at least 100 miles from Quinton’s doctors. Quinton has outgrown his car seat and because of his muscles and hips sitting in it makes him hurt. We are looking for a safe and comfortable way to get Quinton to his doctor appointments and to places to help make his life happy, healthy, and fun.”

If you are willing to help a fellow teacher in need I can promise you that your vote is much more than appreciated.

That’s it folks! If you’d like to join up with Doodle Bugs linky click here.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Marcy 🙂
