7 Bible Verses for Patience | Bible Verses Teachers Need To Do God’s Great Work

As teachers, I firmly believe we are put on this Earth to do a very important job – to serve our students, show them the love of God, and help them love learning. However, I think we can agree, we could all use a little more patience in our days. In this blog post, I’m sharing 7 bible verses teachers need to do God’s great work, all centered around patience!

It seems like each and every year, the teaching profession gets harder and harder. In my work with teachers via professional development, in my Saddle Up For 2nd Grade Facebook community, and now, in being back in the classroom, I realize that teaching is not what it used to be.

We are seeing more student behavior issues and dealing more and more with parents. The sad thing is, we are also seeing a large fluctuation of loving and caring teachers who are leaving the profession.

All of these things have inspired me to bring up an important characteristic that I think we all need (especially us teachers!) to have instilled in us.

That is… PATIENCE!

Today, I want to share more about what the Bible says about patience and how we can relate God’s teachings to the teaching we do in our very own classrooms.

7 Bible Verses Teachers Need To Reflect On

If you’ve followed me for a while, especially over on my Teachers Who Pray platform, you know that I am an avid reader of the Bible. I firmly believe in the power of spending time in God’s word and letting his stories and verses lead the way in your life and all you do.

Whatever challenge you’re going through or whatever you want to work on in your life, the Bible has an answer, and working to be more patient is no different.

Come explore a few of my favorite bible verses for patience in my YouTube video below.

#1: 2nd Chronicles 15:7

The first of the Bible verses for patience is 2nd Chronicles 15:7 NLT, which says, ”But as for you, be strong and courageous, for your work will be rewarded.”

When I first read this verse, my immediate thought was “Ok God, but when will this reward happen, because my patience is wearing thin?!”

Then I realized I needed to look at this verse from a different perspective. As I did that, I found myself saying “Ok God, I see what you did there!” as I was reminded about the many times the Lord Jesus Christ has come through for me. The wait we experience seems insignificant compared to the spiritual blessings we will receive. In this verse, God is telling us to be patient.

The work you do matters. Your job matters, despite what culture has made the teaching profession out to be. Keep the patience, focus on His will, and ask Him to guide you. That’s what He wants. When we feel weak and can’t do it anymore, He wants us to call on Him to carry us. The reward we receive may not always be what we want (or when we want it), but His promises always deliver.

#2: Romans 12:12

The next Bible verse teachers need to reflect on is Romans 12:12, which says, “Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying.

Oftentimes when we are struggling, we get impatient. We want instant results and gratification. In this verse, we are reminded to be patient in times of trouble and keep praying on it, having faith in the hope God provides.

#3: Psalms 37:7

In Psalms 37:7, God says, “Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for him to act. Don’t worry about evil people who prosper or fret about their wicked schemes.

Waiting can be challenging in a world that prizes immediate results. Yet, we can find peace in trusting God’s timing. Be still and patient, even when those around us seem to be moving ahead. Let us stay focused on God’s promises, knowing He has the perfect plan for us.

#4: Isaiah 40:31

In this Bible verse, teachers are encouraged to find strength and not grow weary. Isaiah 40:31 says, “But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.

Even the most experienced teachers, like anyone else, can sometimes feel so tired. When that happens, we can find strength in relying on God and His truth. Trusting in God during tough times helps teachers regain their energy and wait patiently for things to get better.

#5: Ephesians 4:2

In Ephesians 4:2, the Bible says, “Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love.

When you sit back and think about it, we fail God in some way daily, because none of us live perfect lives. This could be because of gossip (hello, teacher workroom), angry thoughts, or lustful thinking. However, each day, God gives us grace, and we should do the same for our students. They aren’t perfect either. They’re human, just like you and I. They like to chat, run around, and even disobey what we say. But, God forgives them each day, just like we should. Ask Him to fill your heart with gentleness, humbleness, and a lot of patience.

#6: Galatians 5:22

This is one of my favorite Bible verses for patience, and it is found in Galatians 5:22. It says, “But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness.

The very essence of Jesus is written in this verse, and each one of these things lives inside of us. As Christians, we are called to demonstrate these characteristics to others. As teachers, we do the same with our teachings and actions.

#7: James 1:2-6

The final Bible verse for teachers about patience that I want to share is James 1:2-6.

It reads, “Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing. If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind.”

In these verses, patience is referred to as endurance. On those days when you feel like crying in the hallway, when a parent questions your every move, or when the overwhelm takes over, stand firm in the truth of God’s word and what He says about your value and worth.

Bible Verses For Patience

It is my greatest hope that you can reflect on these Bible verses teachers need to do God’s great work and use them to speak truth and hope over your days as well.

I am praying for you and your students each and every day, and I see the amazing work you’re doing. Even on the hardest of days, remember this… you are right where God wants you to be. He has a greater plan for you, and being a teacher is part of it.
